A Brief Outlook by Marie-Noelle Kpatakpa (President of the Society-IB1)
Belonging to the IBDP class of 2018 named as the “Game-Changers” should solely indicate our desire to do things differently. We stand for change in our modern times due to our many differences in thinking and beliefs. The Red Cross Society is then just a stepping-stone as it enables us to not only affect the community positively, but do it creatively through the diverse methods learnt.
The workshop was indeed insightful and has taught us many core values and instructions for the administration of first aid and the importance of keeping calm and cautious, when approaching casualties in dire situations. Our predecessors have clearly set the bar through engagement in many activities including sporting ones and the annual independence march. However, even as we continue to build upon their progress, we plan to be spontaneously different.
While collaborating efficiently, we hope to educate individuals on the significance of first aid by having small talks and demonstrations, be it an organization, or a school. We also wish to raise awareness on the issue of safety precautionary measures in our daily lives to prevent common accidents, such as choking or bleeding.
This project seeks to benefit the society at large and impact them in ways they would never forget. With this team made up of highly motivated people with the passion for change and improvement, nothing stops us from living in a safe haven at the end of it all.
Reflections from the 2016/2017 Workshop
Kelsey Sena Searyoh (Grade 11) The Red-Cross 2016/2017 workshop was definitely an unforgettable experience. We learnt new techniques and values, especially the value of teamwork as first aiders. I am beyond glad I joined the Red-Cross Society!
Samuel Kyle Tara (Treasurer) (Grade 11 / Treasurer) My life as the student has been full of sickness and hurdles. My productivity has had many ups and downs like the wavelength of an opera performance. Fighting these sicknesses hasn’t been easy. So as a new student of Tema International of School (T.I.S) looking for a new chance at school life, one exempt of sickness, I was ecstatic at the sound of a Red Cross club. I’ve learnt so much over the past week for mild situations such as cuts and bruises to excruciating burns and bone fractures. I’ve been part of a medical epiphany and was truly part of the Red-Cross 2016/2017 workshop.
Rachel Odartey-Wellington (Grade 11) I have always been attracted to helping the community in one way or another so when there was an opportunity to join a group, such as Red Cross, I couldn’t let it slip, especially as an aspiring doctor. The workshop was definitely interesting and learning things like the differences between drowning and choking was certainly enlightening and above all now I know I can happily serve mankind like the motto suggests.
Bubune Eli Dzantor (Grade 11/Vice-President) The Red-Cross workshop has really broadened the many ways in which I could help people. It showed me that you don’t have to go through various amounts of training to be able to help someone in need. The workshop not only helped me acquire the know-how of helping people in need, but also showed me that anything as small as a Red-Cross Society in a school can really go a long way.
