The Grade 8 MYP Mathematics class has been very interactive and revealing over the past few weeks. Among the tasks/activities that students have been involved in is the “Group Domino Activity”. The objective of this activity was for students to establish the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages drawing from their knowledge of multiple representation.
These topics had already been discussed in previous lessons. Thus, students were put in groups and provided with a set of 20 flash cards each with any two forms (decimal, fraction or percentage). This activity is also based on the Domino Game concept. They matched each card to their equivalent forms. The first group to match the 20 flash cards correctly wins 40 bonus points.
A class debriefing (reflection) after the activity indicated that students enjoyed the collaboration and their understanding was enhanced. Students solved 20 different questions on conversion between fractions, decimals and percentages. Below are pictures of a group and their finished domino match.
