3rd October happened to be the Founders day; a day to celebrate the Founders of Tema International School. Two major activities took place during the day; the Ajavon memorial cup in the morning and the Founders’ Day Special Lunch in the afternoon. The evening which marked the climax of the celebration witnessed the Founders’ Day Inter-Color Singing Competition.
The competition was such that each of the four colors; Red, Yellow, Green and Blue had to learn and perform a compulsory anthem, The Battle of Jericho, a Negrospiritual believed to have been composed by slaves in the first half of the 19th century, and assigned by the Music Department. Each group (colour) was to also present an optional song, and its own composition (which should have a theme that suited the occasion; celebration of founders).
Professional Musicians: Bessa Simons, a renowned highlife musician; Amakye Boateng, a Music Lecturer at the University of Ghana; Pious Anabil, a Music Tutor/ Director at Ghana International School, and Eddie Gaisie, a renowned Tenor/Baritone Singer, were invited as adjudicators for the competition.
Students and their colour patrons prepared adequately for the competition with the help of the Music Department, and came up with amazing compositions.
The night was marked by amazing performances which saw RED emerge as the group with the best composition and best conductor, and GREEN as best costume. RED was adjudged ‘overall best choir’ and handed the Founders’ Day Inter-Color Singing Competition Trophy with BLUE, YELLOW and GREEN taking the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots respectively.
To all the colors, we say ‘congrats’ for all the efforts you put in to make this event a success. Do remember that it isn’t the results that always matter, but the lessons we learn going through the process.
To each one of the TIS family; students, parents and staff who contributed in one way or the other, we recognize and appreciate your efforts.
