I wrote about the Grade 8 unit a few weeks ago. By now they have finished their creative process of designing and have now started transferring their ideas to the walls around the art room. It’s great to see how much students are engaged and working collaboratively on their murals. The outdoor becomes an extension of the art room, creating one big studio. With a bit of music playing there is the buzz of true art in progress. In pairs, they create a human figure outline, which is then filled with colourful patterns. Students are working hard, but it will take some time to finish. Not the best comparison, but it took Michelangelo 4 years to finish the Sistine Chapel ceiling. But then again, he painted more than 300 figures. Our aim however, is to have the project finished and revealed at Expression Day.
