The English Department of Tema International School hosted its Second Annual Creative Writers’ Workshop on October 30 – 31, 2015. The workshop aimed at inculcating writing skills in high school students, and enhancing the skills for students who already have the passion for writing. The theme for this year’s conference was Growing Tomorrow’s Writers Today.
Last year, students who participated in the workshop produced an anthology of their works which was titled Whispers: Creative Expressions. This first edition of the workshop publication include works in short stories, poetry, creative non-fiction, children’s fiction, memoirs, song lyrics, monologues, newspaper articles, etc.
This year, 103 participants from six high schools in the Greater Accra Region (Tema International School, Ghana International School, Faith Montessori School, East Airport International School, Tema Parents Association School and Tema Senior High School) participated in the workshop. Ten resource persons and two guests tutored participants in sessions on short stories, poetry, spoken word, song lyrics and journalism. Special thanks to the team of facilitators: Dr. Adjei (Lecturer, University of Ghana), Bernard Akoi-Jackson (artist/poet), Chief Moomen (poet), Kwaku Sakyi-Addo (CEO, Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications), Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo (Dean, School of Communication and Information Studies, University of Ghana), Nana Asase (poet), Nana Nyarko Boateng (writer), Martin Egblewogbe (Lecturer, University of Ghana), Apiorkor Ashong (producer, Citi FM), Caleb Bafoe (tutor, TIS) and Emmanuel Owusu (tutor, TIS).
We look forward to a more exciting workshop next year.
