Excitement, happiness, and an overwhelming sense of pride are the few words that describe how we feel about Damilola Johnson’s achievement. She was ranked second in the nationwide “Mbaasem Writing Competition” for girls.
The Mbaasem Writing Contest for Girls is held annually to promote literacy, reading and writing among young girls of Ghana. It is open to all female students currently enrolled in Senior High Schools in Ghana. To enter the competition, contestants are to produce a 750 – 2000 word original and unpublished story. Damilola’s vivid, captivating and very informative short story, “Diary of a Chibok Girl” is one that inspires girls to rise above all odds and free themselves from all that belittles them. It speaks of freedom and boosts the confidence of young girls to conquer the world. She received GH¢ 700 for coming second and has been given the opportunity to attend a writing camp to learn from the crème de la crème of the world’s writing community.
We are really proud of our Damilola and hope we are able to bring out the greatness in more of our students by grooming and encouraging them.
